I marvel I wonder I stand back amazed Just when I thought that I Had something to do With the way things are going You show me That every turn and every tumble Every move and every mile Have brought me to the center Of what you had in mind So I gaze, I stare, at the treasure I am holding The beauty, the face, the chance I can't deny, that I Would not be here, if I had my way Just look at what Love is doing
2.
Well I've got this trouble now But I am not too clever Got to figure out How pieces fit together Need some wisdom how To see the picture take shape Something I can celebrate I remember days When all the steps were clear But somewhere along the way The arrows disappeared And left me standing here Looking down at my toes Can't you see I'm in pieces My image shattered And scattered on the floor Can't you see I'm in pieces And don't know where I fit anymore, hey Perhaps I should begin With pieces of the frame Then look to fill it in With patterns of the same Just wonder what happens when The emerging design Doesn't really feel like mine Can't you see I'm in pieces My image shattered And scattered on the floor Can't you see I'm in pieces And don't know where I fit anymore, hey But who am I to know your ways Who am I to see your face Who am I to know your ways Who am I

Watch the mother, watching her son As if he is the only one for miles ‘cuz it’s amazing, that a child so small Would see the beauty in all that surrounds him So as they share their days Hear the mother say I’d never ask for more than this For such a one to share my life with As the days and years go by It gets clearer to see that I Am the luckiest one to call you mine La da da da da… Watch the lady, watching her man As if he is the only one for miles ‘cuz it’s amazing, that in all of the world She’d be the luckiest girl to have him So as they share their days Hear the lady say Watch the daughter, watching her dad As if he is the only one for miles ‘cuz it’s amazing, how near she feels to the sky When he carries her high on his shoulders So as they share their days Hear the daughter say

Does it look like a prison From the outside looking in Where people speak of freedom But live like they have none, at all If there’s a voice that’s calling It might be hard to hear Above the noisy chorus Whose message isn’t clear, at all I see you need an angel You’ve been looking for just one to come along But somehow it seems that all the angels are busy Trying to steal each other’s songs And I wish I could say you’re wrong If the door swung open Would you want to come through Is there anyway these four walls Could ever feel like home, to you I know I’m no angel I’d never claim to be But I would give my life to, help you see the one I know you need an angel And you’ve been looking for so long for one to come along But somehow it seems that all the angels are busy Trying to steal each other’s songs And I wish I could say you’re wrong Wish I could say you’re wrong Does it look like a prison from the outside looking in?

If I sat down to pen a poem To capture love’s most tender form Flowing words in perfect rhyme Would miss the mark, every time If I sat down to paint a scene Of all the beauty love can bring Reds and blues in warmest hues Would not compare, to what’s standing here For this is a time One of those rare, rare times When life is better than fiction When life is better than fiction If I sat down to craft a tale Of a love so sweet it never failed As pages turned you’d see right through No fairy tale compares to truth For this is a time One of those rare and magical times When life is better than fiction When life is better than fiction Close your eyes. Take it in Touch and feel, it’s real. It’s real If I sat down to write a song Of a love that’s true, a love that’s long The melody would come sweet and clear The Maker’s whisper in our ears That this is a time One of those rare and beautiful times When life is better than fiction When life is better than fiction

Weak and worn is this flesh I wear It crumbles, breaks Until there’s nothing there to hold So as this day begins I ask for strength just to stand again Will you take this pain And let my wounds be healed Blackest scars live deep inside Years of shame I want so much to hide from you But in the light I find This heavy load can be left behind If you’ll take this shame And let my wounds be healed In this season of the rain We fear our souls might freeze with pain Would you let the sun shine through Once again Hungry sadness eats this heart of stone Can one so loved feel so very much alone So in this silent prayer I beg you Jesus, let me know you’re near Will you take this heart And let my wounds be healed Will you take this pain and let my wounds be Take this shame and let my wounds be Take this heart and let my wounds be healed

Like every mommy, and every daddy When our baby arrived, we held him and said How could anything be so perfect From the tips of his fingers To the top of his... head Fall turns to winter A trip to the doctor She charts his numbers, runs all the tests Then the mood of the meeting shifts with her posture Your baby’s not growing, in pace with the rest I look at those numbers Then look at my son He doesn’t stand tall, but His Spirit aglow And with hope in my voice, I answer that doctor “There’s something about my son you should know” You see his eyelashes are growin’ and growin’ They’re telling the world to look him straight in the eye And I could swear, the way those lashes are goin’ Someday, they’re gonna reach to the sky Yes someday he and those lashes, will reach to the... sky When he steps off the bus, I can tell he’s been cryin’ The shrug in his shoulders tells the story too well The jabs and teasing of other children Have sent him retreating, into his shell So lifting his chin with the tip of my finger I wipe away tears, before they can flow With love in my voice, I look at my son And say- “There’s something about yourself you should know” You see your eyelashes are growin’ and growin’ They’re telling the world to look you straight in the eye And I could swear, the way those lashes are goin’ Someday, they’re gonna reach to the sky Yes someday you and those lashes, will reach to the... sky Well, life isn’t always fair I’ve discovered Blessings and burdens aren’t predictable things So all we can ask for as mothers and fathers Is that through it all, our babies might sing... My eyelashes are growin’ and growin’ They’re telling the world to look me straight in the eye And I could swear, the way those lashes are goin’ Someday, they’re gonna reach to the sky Yes someday me and my lashes, will reach to the... sky Your eyelashes are growin’ and growin’ They’re telling the world to look you straight in the eye And I could swear, the way those lashes are goin’ Someday, they’re gonna reach to the sky Yes someday you and those lashes, will reach to the... sky

For the first quarter century of my life, it was straight I was content to reside in the lines That framed the world around me You could run your fingers through my hair And they would slide right through And after you did, you would’ve thought That kid is as sweet as her perfume But then one night the rain came down And soaked me to the core When the rain let up, I look up and realized It’s not straight anymore I’ve gone- curly Because straight doesn’t fit who I am anymore Life is more twisted and complicated Than anything straight is good for It’s harder to tame but there’s something to gain Waking each day to a different view Straight may be pretty But curly is beautiful too Don’t try to pin me down Before everything changed, if you asked me to say Why is life so good? Would’ve looked in your eye and said Well I’m doing everything I should It’s a curious fact, when left intact That love is truly blind But the blinders it wears aren’t always the pairs We had in mind ‘cuz in hindsight, that rainy night that I wanted to flee (flee) Gave me the curls in my hair And the ones that I wear, deep inside of me Don’t try to pin me down

There's a baby whose story I've been hearing since I was one myself Born in a manger where shepherds and kings Came to bow down before him And I suppose until now I'd never wondered What life would be like Without that babe in the manger Whose story's been told since the night he was born But what if? What if there was no baby What if he'd stayed in heaven And left us to ponder if there is a heaven at all And what if? What if that little baby Never grew to the man Who would show me what love looks like Well, I'd surely be different Wouldn't we all? There are days we may wonder If we crafted this tale So that we'd have a nail to hang our wreathes upon Oh, but one look around At this life on the ground Leaves little room for the doubting So I bend my knee With shepherds and kings And I sing Joy to the world Away in a manger Oh come let us adore him Well, I’d surely be different Can’t imagine how different But I know I’d be different And wouldn’t we all

Take my life that I may be Consecrated Lord to Thee Take my moments and my days Let them flow in ceaseless praise Take my voice and let me sing Always only for my King Take my lips and let them be Filled with messages from Thee Filled with messages from Thee Take my life, let it be Ever only all for Thee Ever only all for Thee Take my will and make it Thine It shall be no longer mine Take my heart, it is Thine own And it shall be Your royal throne It shall be Your royal throne Take our love Oh Lord we pour At Thy feet its treasure store Take our lives and we will be Ever only all for Thee Take our lives, let them be Ever only all for Thee Ever only all for Thee

In the springtime, oh what beauty You shared with all you knew And the colors of your flowers Inspired us to blossom too Every year as saplings surfaced Spreading their own leaves to the sun You nurtured and provided for each tender one We’ll remember you in springtime In the summer of our lives When drought threatened to defeat The cover of your branches Offered shelter from the heat And when we were prone to wandering Stepping off the tracks Home was always found with your trunk against our backs We’ll remember you in summer And in the fall The greatest gift you gave in all your days Was to show us all what it is to die With beauty and with grace In selfless love you dropped your leaves For us to take and hold Giving each one time to say goodbye And brace us for the cold We’ll remember you in autumn It’s winter now We miss your colors Flowers, shade and leaves Empty branches are no cover For those who stand beneath to grieve Yet gentle tree, if in your lifetime You taught us anything It’s that life will always triumph When winter’s death gives life to spring We’ll remember you In winter, in autumn, in summer and springtime.

I remember it well, the night we met I was busy making plans I’d soon forget ‘cuz there were you. There was only you With laughter so bright it filled the room There was nothing left for me to do But fall for you. Could only fall for you And now that you’re my girl This I will promise the world That I’ll love you forever, If you’ll make me bagels and cream cheese If you’ll scratch my back And let me wear my favorite thrift store jeans I’ll be into you, If you’ll let me be into collecting things Like Pez dispensers And I’ll love you forever If you’ll make me bagels and cream cheese I really can’t explain it mathematically That I am twice the man I used to be When I’m with you. Oh when I’m with you It’s as if you rhythm fits my rhyme Let’s move together in perfect time Until the day I’m through, I wanna dance with you If you’ll let me be into collecting things Like airport shotglasses If you’ll let me be into collecting things Like polyester suits Oh I’ll love you forever, forever
